Why she thinks it's important to read women

"I’ve been reading women writers since I was a teenager. Loving their stories, and knowing I could be a “main character” or create ones too, led to my decision to be a writer myself. Choosing to read authors like Beverly Jenkins, Alyssa Cole, and Sherry Thomas has been the gamechanger; I am often in awe when I read, I feel enriched in my reading life, and purposeful in my writing life."

Books by Beverly Jenkins

Beverly Jenkins

I’ve always loved reading romance, and had been doing so since I was a teen. But only when I started reading Beverly Jenkins books did I realize how important romance could be to me, and the effect a romance author writing with intention has on any reader. Her latest series is called Women Who Dare, and the books Rebel and Wild Rain are good places to start.

Books by Alyssa Cole

Alyssa Cole

Alyssa Cole has, in just a few years, given us two different book series that are must-haves for any shelf. The Loyal League series is suspense and romantic drama set during the United States Civil War; the Reluctant Royals series starts with an email telling a working grad student that she’s betrothed to an African prince (but really!). These books go the distance emotionally—and geographically—and I would love for them to be my next fave binge-watch on a streaming-app.

Books by Sherry Thomas

Sherry Thomas

All the Sherry Thomas books I’ve read have been historical fiction—action/romance like My Beautiful Enemy, action/YA like Magnolia Sword: The Ballad of Mulan—and I adore her writing but am also always a bundle of nerves when I read her. Her ongoing series, where Sherlock is actually a woman named Charlotte Holmes, has me hooked, entertained, and also savoring every tiny shred of romance.
