For Women’s Month, we are putting the spotlight on women readers and writers, and the wisdom and inspiration they have given us over the years. We invited them to share their favorite women writers and the works that have impacted their lives the most.
We're kicking this off with one of the superwomen behind Fully Booked, our PR Director Chris Daez. Check out her recommended reads below.
I’ve always admired Michelle Obama on the way she gracefully handles herself in any situation. She is a woman of strength, character and inspiration. Her stories about her childhood, neighborhood and family gives us a better understanding on what is was like growing up in her shoes.
It was a fascinating memoir that depicted a woman who persevered despite all of the challenges she faced. It sheds light on mental illness and physical abuse that happens in her family. Most of all, I was in awe of how she was able pursue her education to transform her life to break away from her past.
Being a mom of two sons, this is my reference guide on how to raise my them as God-fearing gentlemen with strength and discipline. There is a lot of wisdom and practical advice that tackles so many topics - but still with depth on ways we can be a better parent. It is something I would gift my friends with sons and a book I can read again and again.
This is a book that every parent needs. It is particularly helpful these days when we spend more time with our children who are taking their classes online at home. The authors use specific examples and techniques on how to communicate with your kids. I’ve tried these mindful strategies at home and it works!
This book is gives strategies and insights on how to improve your mental health and well-being. This comes in handy during these pandemic months of uncertainty and instability. It helps us to remain resilient, persevere and achieve peace of mind given any situation.
Why do you think it's important to read women writers?
It’s important to read women writers because they are often overlooked. There is something about a woman’s voice that sometimes resembled parts of my own life and experiences in a profound and complex manner. We can help create an equal platform for women writers in the publishing world by reading their books, talking about them and supporting their projects.
What are you currently working on?
During the lockdown, I was able to focus more on our poultry farm and growing organic produce in our Fresh Pastures Farm in Laguna. Our fresh and healthy produce is also used by Medley Modern Mediterranean for salads and wraps. To be able to continue to do what I love for the past 3 years is a gift, especially during these uncertain times. Being able to help others by giving jobs to farmers and promoting the value of nutritious food is something I see myself doing for many years to come.
Chris is the PR Director of Fully Booked and the owner of Fresh Pastures Farm, which you can find on Instagram @freshpasturesph.
