My bookshelf is probably the best representation of myself: a total mess. I have books lying around everywhere—in my room, on various tables, on the floor. I cheated and started fixing while shooting this, so these piles will make their way to the shelf eventually.
I went back to my parents' house right before the quarantine, so all the books that are actually nearest to my heart aren't with me now. Here's my little sanctuary in the city: the lovely shelf I share with my roommate. I miss them all to bits (the books and my roomie).
I'm a bit of a hoarder, and working in a bookstore only fueled my tendencies. I mostly gravitate towards contemporary fiction, but would occasionally pick up a few memoirs, history books, and children's books. Want to guess how many of these I've actually read?
I've also collected a few treasures over time.
I think it was when I started at Fully Booked that I'd developed the habit of reading multiple things at the same time. So naturally, I've picked up a couple of books during the quarantine. Whether I finish any of them is a whole other story. My current reads are:
Figuring by Maria Popova and Weather by Jenny Offill —Both of which I started at the beginning of quarantine, but have not touched in several weeks. Oops.
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen —A re-read, and so far the only book I've finished this whole quarantine. I turn to my YA comfort reads in times of distress and, well, the inevitable reading slump.
Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling —I was planning to re-read this, but then #HarryPotteratHome happened, and I realized I'd much rather have Daniel Radcliffe read it to me.
When I was a kid, reading was an escape. As I grew older, it turned into a comfort. And now, it's just a part of me, so entwined with who I am that I don't know how else to describe myself apart from reader.
I've built my life around books, and I'm very grateful to be able to work with these treasures because I want to share their magic with as many people as possible. My dream is to someday create something as life-giving as the books that surround me.
And that's all from Hannah's shelves filled with beloved books and treasures. You can find more shelf tours here on the blog, but stay tuned for more. Share yours at Bookworm Corner at Fully Booked.
