1. Are the virtual events for free?
Connect & Converse, and Storytelling Saturdays are for free and you can watch it on Fully Booked Facebook page. However, our online workshops have respective workshop fees.
2. Can you tell me more about the Connect & Converse on August 16?
Connect & Converse are special online discussions about Filipino fiction and prose. On August 16, Dean Francis Alfar of Philippine Speculative Fiction will join us for an interview at Fully Booked Facebook page.
Dean Francis Alfar is an author and advocate of speculative fiction. His books include the novel Salamanca (Anvil); short fiction collections The Kite of Stars and Other Stories (Anvil), How to Traverse Terra Incognita (Visprint), East of the Sun and Other Stories (et al), and A Field Guide to the Roads of Manila and Other Stories (Anvil); and the children’s book How Rosang Taba Won A Race (Lampara). As an anthologist, he is the founder of the Philippine Speculative Fiction annuals, and the editor of anthologies including Fantasy: Filipino Fiction for Young Adults, Horror: Filipino Fiction for Young Adults, Science Fiction: Filipino Fiction for Young Adults, Maximum Volume: Best New Philippine Fiction 1 & 2, and Ang Manggagaway at iba pang Kathang-Agham at Pantasya mula sa Gitnang Europa at Pilipinas (Visprint), among others.
Dean’s short stories have been anthologized internationally, in books such as “The Big Book of Modern Fantasy”, “The Time Traveler’s Almanac”, and “The Year’s Best Fantasy & Horror”, as well as various magazines and online publications.
His literary awards include ten Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature — including the Grand Prize for Novel for Salamanca — as well as National Book Awards for the graphic novels Siglo: Freedom and Siglo: Passion, the Philippines Free Press Literary Award, and the Gintong Aklat Award. He is a member of the Manila Critics Circle.
Dean is the owner and chief creative officer of Kestrel (digital design & development) and Logik (social media management). He lives in Manila with his wife and tango partner, award-winning fictionist Nikki Alfar, and their daughters Sage and Rowan.
3. How about the Connect & Converse on August 26, can you tell me more about it?
Weekly, Mai and Leandro talk about the poetry and how it affects them in their daily lives. On August 26, they will go live at Fully Booked Facebook page and will feature segments involving the different aspects of spoken word in the Philippines. RUSSELL MOLINA is a Filipino children’s book author and graphic novelist with over twenty books to his name. His stories have won in numerous awards shows including the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, The PBBY Salanga Writer’s Prize and the National Children’s Book Awards. Epigram books recently released the English edition of his graphic novel Sixty Six, now titled Mr. Tino.
Turn your thoughts and powerful emotions to a beautiful prose in this two-hour poetry writing workshop, wherein you learn the fundamentals of writing poetry. The workshop is open for sixteen years old and above.
About the instructor:
Bearer of a storytelling family's lasting legacy, Leandro Reyes, the great-grandson of Severino "Lola Basyang" Reyes, brings the craft of tale-telling into a new age; uses his training in theater arts to paint performance poetry with elaborative gestures; His art isan assortment of different characters playing poet. He has been described to make “poetry with a surprise center.” Leandro writes to tickle the kid your heart can still manage to beat as, along with pestering the grown-up your mind has thought itself ready for.
