1. Mia wrote all of Homicide and Halo-Halo in one place.
Mia’s first novel, Homicide and Halo-Halo, was written in her cozy work area alongside her favorite things in the world: tea, candles, and some plush toys. On top of this, her desk is also filled with geeky merch, crystals, and tarot cards.She also shared with us a photo of her writing desk, which is also filled with more geeky merch, crystals, and tarot decks.
2. Before writing books, Mia taught English for more than three years in South Korea.
Before becoming an author, Mia spent more than three years in South Korea as an English instructor. Then, she taught at a for-profit language school in Chicago. But when the pandemic happened, she found herself in a career change. Currently, Mia is happily employed as the Youth Services Desk Assistant at the Forest Park Public Library, as Mia mentioned via APALA.
3. She is obsessed with candles and lights one before every writing session.
Some novelists have a writing ritual–something they do before getting started to work on a new chapter for a book they are currently writing. Mia is one of those writers and for her, it is a no-brainer: she definitely makes sure one of her candles is lit–she has a shelf dedicated to different scents that she uses when writing.
4. Mia has two dogs living with her.
Not only is Mia a book lover, she adores dogs as well. She has two puppers named Max Power and Gumiho. Mia revealed that she adopted Gumiho when she lived in South Korea and brought her back to Chicago where she currently lives. Max Power, on the other hand, is named after a Simpsons quote.
5. Arsenic and Adobo and Homicide and Halo-Halo are part of the Tita Rosie’s Cozy Mystery Series.
Tita Rosie’s Cozy Mystery Series is a book series filled with delectable dishes and sharp humor topped with a bit of mystery and thriller. Arsenic and Adobo, which is also a RUSA-award winning novel, is the first book in the series. Meanwhile, Homicide and Halo-Halo was recently published last year.
